Mont
Marie Child Care Center, Inc., a ministry of the Sisters
of St. Joseph, is a child
care and learning center which provides a safe, supportive
and challenging environment. The Center is located in
Holyoke and overlooks the Connecticut River Valley. The
curriculum is based on the belief that children learn
through interaction with the environment. Each day has a
planned rhythm with free play, structured activities,
outdoor play, lunch, snacks and rest.

Toddler Program
(for ages 15 months to 2 years, 9 months)
This program responds to the individual needs of the
child. The program offers exploration and experiences in
large and small muscle development as well as
providing a variety of self-help skills, consistency and
routine.

Preschool Program
(for ages 2 years, 9 months to 4 years, 9 months)
This program facilitates the emotional, intellectual and
perceptual
motor development of each child. The experiences and
activities provided allow the children to explore their
identities both as individuals and as members of a group.
They are also encouraged to look at their relationship to
the environment. The children explore language, large and
small motor development and creative movement.

Intergenerational Program
The Child Care Center participates in an intergenerational
program with the residents of the Mont Marie Health Care
Center. This program brings these two age groups together
in a warm, sensitive, comfortable setting.

Special
Thanks to Our Supporters
The Mont Marie
Child Care Center is extremely grateful for the
generous support of the following charitable
foundations and corporations. These
contributions help provide quality pre-school programs
to the children of Holyoke and surrounding
communities.
The Stop
and Shop Supermarket Company has donated $1,750 to
the Tuition Assistance Program at the Mont Marie Child
Care Center. In making the donation, Linda Conroy,
Customer Service Manager at the Holyoke store, said, "We
applaud all the fine work done by your organization, and
extend our best wishes for much continued success."
The Susan
A. and Donald P. Babson Charitable Foundation has
given a $1,000 grant to the Mont Marie Child Care Center
for general operating support. This generous gift
will help the center build upon existing strengths and
achieve goals in early childhood education.
According to Lynn
Korza, grant writer, "we are extremely grateful to
these charitable organizations -- their commitment to
Mont Marie Child Care Center is
extremely important during these tough economic times
when so many of our families are in dire need of
financial assistance."
Christmas
Show a Blockbuster Hit!
Families and friends
filled the Mont Marie Child Care Center gym Dec. 22 to
see the annual Christmas show. And the children,
numbering close to 100, did not disappoint. The
show, which featured singing angels, dancing snowmen,
reindeer and more, was a smash hit with the audience!
Pre-schoolers
Keep Tabs on Construction
With construction
going on right outside their windows, some of the
children from the Mont Marie Child Care Center are
helping to "supervise" the project. The
building, called the St. Joseph Residence at Mont
Marie, is slated to open next summer.
One class in
particular, consisting of four-year olds, visits
various vantage points around the Mont to check on the
building's progress. The students, decked out in
their own hard hats, can be seen pointing at various
construction vehicles, and reciting to anyone within
earshot, what the vehicles are called and what job
they do.
The
youngsters also meet occasionally with the project
foreman and have even received a set of "plans" for
the building. What a wonderful learning
experience!
Real to
Reel, a TV program produced by Catholic
Communications at the Springfield Diocese, recently
aired a feature about the children. The video
